Today Year 4 investigated the human digestive system. We began by cutting weetabix up with scissors (inscisors) and crushed it with a spoon (molars). We added some washing up liquid to represent the enzymes in saliva. After this, we discussed that the food would move through the oesophagus to the stomach. We then churned the food and added some vinegar to represent our stomach acid. We then pushed the mixture through a pair of tights to show the movement through the small intestine and large intestine. We discussed how the nutrients would be absorbed into the body. We squeezed the excess liquid out of the mixture. Finally, we emptied the mixture into a bowl to represent faecal matter leaving the body.
