Have a read of Alexander’s fantastic piece writing based on the book Varjak Paw.
Sleepily, Varjak woke up.His eyes bolted open. Slowly, Varjak yawned. “It was just a dream” said Varjak. “Everyone knows that Jalal is dead.” Varjak wondered if the next person to appear in his dream was either the Contessa or his stupid brother Julius. Without a care, he sped through the park. The park was nice and quiet, but he had to go to the city and find a dog. So he dashed on a mile or so until he reach ed the city. It wasn’t like the park. It was bursting with people. In the distance he could see the park. He could see the statue in the park. He could see the tall tree he climbed to see the city. And there he was, stuck with the sky-scrapers, the sea of lights, people, smog and spilt trash-cans. In fact, it was nothing like the quiet park. Varjak wanted a new home. But nobody wanted him. People rushed on by. “Excuse me?” said Varjak. But nobody listened. Varjak wandered sadly onto the road. Just then, a metal monster came onto the road. It could kill humans so maybe it could kill cats! Varjak remembered the old cat’s words. With a sudden jolt, Varjak took drastic action with dealing with the car and leapt out of the way. Maybe that was a dog, thought Varjak. But it would be too big to fit in the house. And besides, it wanted to be outside.
